Artist Statement

Rose Vortex, 2008

At a time when words and images bombard us from all directions, I am drawn to nonverbal and minimalist expressions of form. My series of “tone poems” investigates subtlety and sensation in color, tone and shape. The goal is to suspend time and capture light and its gradual transitions of color and tone, achieving what Kasimir Malevich described as “the supremacy of pure feeling or perception.” Shape is elusive, the source of light ambiguous…leaving the viewer with an impression of silence and of being nowhere in particular.
